Description

Kishida Kyoko was a Japanese actress, voice actor, and fairy tale writer born in Toyotama-gun, Tokyo as the second daughter of playwright Kishida Kunio.She graduated from Jiyu Gakuen High School. While she was a student at said school, she became interested in performing arts and aspired to become a performing artist.In 1953, she made her movie debut as a bit part of "Nigorie" directed by Imai Tadashi.She married Nakaya Noboru in 1954 and got pregnant, but experienced a miscarriage. After that, she focused more on her acting. In 1960, she was selected as the leading role in "Sarome" directed by Mishima Yukio, and since then she has played many major and difficult roles, including the Teatron Award-winning "Yokina Yurei".Kishida won the Mainichi Film Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performances such as "Hakai" in 1962, and the Blue Ribbon Supporting Actress Award for "Suna no Onna" in 1964.Getting pregnant a second time, she decided to decline her job to avoid miscarriage like last time and gave birth to her eldest daughter in 1968. She divorced in 1978 and started a life with just her and her daughter.In her later years, she is also known to have been involved in the Constitutional Movement, such as participating in the "Meeting of Theater People Against Iraq Attacks and Emergency Legislation."She died at a hospital in Tokyo on December 17, 2006, at the age of 76 due to respiratory failure caused by a brain tumor.
